SKINNY WHITE GIRL

I'm an idea junkie on the look out for
projects that stir extraordinary things
in a sometimes too-ordinary world.

You can dig up more dirt on me HERE.

THE ONE THING IN YOUR INBOX THAT DOESN’T REQUIRE YOU TO DO ANYTHING.

Book Brain Dump

  • Borders is synonymous  for Wonderland for some of us. Coffee. Comfortable chairs. Every book you’ve ever dreamed of there for the browsing. (Move over Willy Wonka and your wordless chocolate factory.)
  • But even this chain–the one we complained about when it knocked out our favorite locally owned bookstores (R.I.P. Nomad)–may be looking backward at its best days. Here’s an interesting look into Border’s unraveling.
  • In the mean time, what constitutes “a book” keeps changing. And we who fancy ourselves writers have to keep tabs on how people consume information these days.
  • That was one of the few topics that arose during last week’s dinner at the Brewery Vivant with classy Zondervan women, Carolyn and Sandy.
  • Decades in, they KNOW the industry. Two words that reigned? “Felt need.”
  • In the meantime, as the industry revolutionizes itself, you readers snag some special incentives. This week, for example, Amazon is running a limited-time-only freebie on Steven Pressfield’s e-book, Do the Work.
  • (By the way, if you haven’t heard, cheap e-books are monopolizing things lately.)
  • Or, as mentioned leading up to Easter, you can still score a free audio version of my book, Picking Dandelions, with Amazon Audible. [Details here.]
  • These kind of promos and deals even have some writers buying back the rights to their books and re-releasing them for kindle.
  • Oh and did I mention the use of public libraries is INCREASING?? How’s that for a curve ball?? (HT: @booklover003, who happens to be my best friend from high school and fav children’s librarian.)
  • Another spring time bonus while we’re talking reading: if you’re interested in grouping-up to read Picking Dandelions via your book club or small group, here’s a seasonal special you might be interested in. A small group package. 12 books. Personalized to your group members from me. Discussion questions. Bonus material. Package price: $99, including shipping. (That beats Amazon by $40.) While supplies last.

  • If your group does the spring time special, we’ll set up a skype conversation so I can hear their comments and field questions. And we’ll share back their picture here. (The group pictured above was the first to read the book together. They have a special place in my heart.)
  • Also, speaking of women who have my heart, keep watching on Mondays for interviews with influential women writers and bloggers who have something to say about “women issues”. [Last week's interview with Jena Nardella]
  • Happy reading!!
