Book Brain Dump

  • Borders is synonymous  for Wonderland for some of us. Coffee. Comfortable chairs. Every book you’ve ever dreamed of there for the browsing. (Move over Willy Wonka and your wordless chocolate factory.)
  • But even this chain–the one we complained about when it knocked out our favorite locally owned bookstores (R.I.P. Nomad)–may be looking backward at its best days. Here’s an interesting look into Border’s unraveling.
  • In the mean time, what constitutes “a book” keeps changing. And we who fancy ourselves writers have to keep tabs on how people consume information these days.
  • That was one of the few topics that arose during last week’s dinner at the Brewery Vivant with classy Zondervan women, Carolyn and Sandy.
  • Decades in, they KNOW the industry. Two words that reigned? “Felt need.”
  • In the meantime, as the industry revolutionizes itself, you readers snag some special incentives. This week, for example, Amazon is running a limited-time-only freebie on Steven Pressfield’s e-book, Do the Work.
