Don’t Like It If You Want To Go to Hell

from Gizmodo

I’d like to tell you this image reposted from Gizmodo is pure fiction. But anybody who has been on Facebook knows that like a lot of humor, the reason it rings funny is because it’s SOOOOOO screeching close to reality.

Manipulation, a little spirituality and a social network are powerful ingredients in the hands of the world’s worst evangelists it seems.

Any of this sound familiar, for example?

Post this to prove you actually read my posts.
Post this if you are a mother who loves your kids.
Post this if you have a woman in your life you appreciate.
Post this if you are against this disease.
Post this if you love Jesus.

For the sake of all that is good, people, let yourselves off the hook.

Even if you exercise your freedom (and intellect) to NOT re-post, the jury is out. You still care about your friends, love your kids, appreciate your woman, fight disease and love Jesus.

Also, while we’re on the subject, I hate to break it to you, dear friends, but no shopping cart system is down allowing you to buy ipads for a dollar. And Apple isn’t giving out free MacBooks to everyone who likes a photo of a bunch of Mac boxes either.

Manipulation, spiritual or otherwise, on social networks is just like manipulation in real life. Annoying. And in bad taste.

I’ve only been on Facebook for a few weeks, but it stuns my funny bone how much of this there is. Just now, a new one is on my feed that if I like, Bill Gates will give me $5000! This blog made a rainy day full of sunshine!

The Christian themed manipulative ones are not just bad taste, but a bad witness too. It really doesn’t send a good message to non-Christians about what being a Christian means to repeatedly have stuff come up in their newsfeed that is manipulative, cheesy and often illogical. Worst is the ones that misuse scripture (the classic one being the “if you deny me before men, I’ll deny you before my father in heaven” verse)because they have all the above effects and make the bible looks stupid as well
