Mr.Robertson Does Not Speak For Me

Once again, Pat Robertson–perceived by many as speaking for the Christian faith as a whole–has blamed a natural disaster on an arbitrary sinful act of his own choosing.

haitiThis time? Haiti’s devastation, Robertson claims, was brought on by an undercover deal the Haitians made with the devil.

Sighhh.

Yes, its true.

He’s at it again with the pseudo-prophetic judgments.

And I can’t help feeling sick about it.

I’m not going to re-outline all the reasons I think this is irresponsible, because I wrote a similar article one of the last times Mr.Robertson did us the favor of making this sort of statement on behalf of the faith. You can read it here.

I think it was a tsunami then, and not a quake, but you’ll get the point in principle.

What I do want to make clear to the world is that I am a person of faith.

A church-goer.

A Christian author.

A speaker.

And I don’t agree with Mr.Robertson.

He doesn’t speak for me.

And he doesn’t speak for most of my friends either.comment button

And what I want to say to the media is that there are other people out there to offer religious commentary. And if you don’t know who they are, I’d be happy to point you in their direction.

Until then, I’ll be praying for Haiti. And also for Mr. Robertson.

It amazes me how some people think they can know the mind of God. My bible says that is beyond my capability of understanding, and not necessary for me to know. Yet here this man says he knows about “deal with the devil” by the people of Haiti. Can I have whatever drugs he might be using?

I’m glad to hear there are more reasonable people out there. Thanks for posting this.

I remember when he was so big in the 80s. He had all that power. Maybe power makes you feel like its your job to judge?

Too bad that he gets so much air time. I agree there are better people to represent the Christian faith and he is outdated and losing momentum now.

I applaud your stance. The comments made by Mr. Robertson, as well as Mr. Limbaugh, were beyond insensitive. I like to believe that most people are astute and compassionate enough to understand that the venom they spew is not in line with Christian or any other humanitarian principles, but the influence they potentially wield on even one person is disturbing enough.
